Mark Zuckerberg Surpasses Bill Gates, Now Ranked as World’s 5th Wealthiest Person

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook and CEO of Meta Platforms, has risen to become the fifth richest person globally, as per rankings on both Forbes and Bloomberg Billionaire Indexes. In 2023, Zuckerberg’s wealth experienced a significant boost, leading him to surpass Bill Gates on the Forbes list, attributed to the rising value of Meta stocks in recent months.

Forbes’ Real Time Billionaire data currently estimates Zuckerberg’s net worth at $130.2 billion, overtaking Bill Gates who stands at $119 billion. Gates now finds himself in seventh place, just behind his peer Warren Buffet. The increase in Zuckerberg’s wealth is linked to the rise in Meta’s stock price, which stood at $369.67 per share as of January 12, 2024. Analysts attribute this surge in wealth to Zuckerberg’s decision to abandon the controversial Metaverse project, which had previously been a financial drain on the company.

In the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, Zuckerberg also holds the fifth position, although he trails Gates, with a net worth of $134 billion compared to Gates’ $140 billion. Remarkably, Zuckerberg’s fortune jumped by over $90 billion in 2023, propelling him from below the top 20 to the fifth spot on the Bloomberg list. In the first two weeks of 2024 alone, he gained more than $5 billion, and analysts speculate that he may overtake Gates if this trend continues.

At 39 years old and a father of three, Zuckerberg has made a notable mark as the youngest billionaire ever listed on the Bloomberg Index, achieving this milestone at the age of 23 in 2008.
