Brentford Manager Thomas Frank Anticipates Ivan Toney’s Departure in the Summer

27-year-old Ivan Toney is expected to have just one year remaining on his contract by the end of the season, and speculation surrounds potential moves to Arsenal and Chelsea.

Toney, who returned to action in January after an eight-month ban for breaching gambling regulations, is anticipated to depart Brentford in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Brentford boss Thomas Frank.

Frank, speaking to Danish sports magazine Tipsbladet, acknowledged the likelihood of Toney’s departure, noting the financial implications of selling their top player but also highlighting his market value.

Following his suspension last year, Toney made a successful comeback, scoring in Brentford’s victory over Nottingham Forest in January.

Despite Toney expressing a desire to play for a “big club,” Frank revealed that there were no offers for the striker during the January transfer window. However, he expects significant interest in Toney from various clubs in the upcoming window.

While Frank personally prefers to retain Toney, he acknowledges the allure of seeing the striker compete for a top team.

Toney’s contributions have been significant for Brentford, particularly during their return to the Premier League after a lengthy absence. His goal-scoring prowess has been evident in both the Championship and Premier League seasons, aiding Brentford’s campaigns.

This season, Brentford has faced challenges in Toney’s absence, reflecting his importance to the team’s performance. Currently, they sit 15th in the Premier League standings, narrowly above the relegation zone.
